Meet our principals
Brian and Dan established Simon Everett to bring creativity, operational diligence, and employee fulfillment together under one trusted brand. They have managed analytic services portfolios at companies in all stages - from global powerhouse to back-room startup. They are experienced professionals who love working with high-performance people to solve challenging problems.
Brian has conceptualized, managed, and directly supported a highly diverse set of analytic services programs and projects for an equally diverse set of public sector clients. Whether designing and managing domestic counterterrorism exercises for the Department of Homeland Security, assembling a team to identify foreign social media-based strategic communications opportunities for the Department of Defense, or helping the Intelligence Community to develop new risk management processes, Brian thrives on leading interdisciplinary teams and delivering innovative capabilities.
Brian’s business experience includes leading the Intelligence practice of the technology and consulting firm Detica, Inc., where he served on the senior management committee and continued to manage several IC programs after the firm’s acquisition by BAE Systems. He was recruited to serve on the initial management team of the security and technology consulting firm Aveshka and was instrumental in securing and managing the company’s first contract. Brian also led multiple analytic projects and teams at DFI International, a DC-based strategy and policy consulting firm. Directly before launching Simon Everett with Dan, Brian led the Government Services practice at Eurasia Group, a leading global political risk consultancy, where he developed and managed the firm's engagements with US and foreign public sector clients.
Prior to his consulting career, Brian served in the US Air Force for twelve years as a Military Language Instructor and Cryptologic Language Analyst supporting operations specific to counterterrorism and foreign military intelligence analysis. He is an advanced-proficiency Arabic graduate of the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California, was selected for unique interagency counterterrorism assignments based on his linguistic and technical expertise, and has been certified as a Professionalized Voice and Graphic Language Analyst by the National Security Agency.
Dan works with executives in the public, private, and non-profit sectors to help them achieve their strategic objectives, improve decision-making processes, and navigate complexity. He has served in business development, account management, and senior analytic roles for organizations of all sizes. Dan has worked on a range of issues, including economic development, diplomacy, defense, cybersecurity, and counterterrorism.
Prior to founding Simon Everett with Brian, Dan was instrumental in the establishment and early success of Aveshka, a professional services company. Dan joined Aveshka shortly after its launch, and within 18 months he was managing a rapidly growing business unit. As Director of the Analysis & Preparedness practice, his portfolio included red teaming, exercise design, and doctrine development capabilities.
While at Eurasia Group, a political risk firm, Dan was responsible for developing new public sector business, managing client engagements, and increasing the firm’s exposure to the financial intelligence and cybersecurity communities.
Previously, Dan was the business area manager for the US-based Cyber and Information Sharing practice at Detica, a BAE Systems company. There, he managed business operations for a hybrid team of engineers and analysts developing advanced, risk-based data analytics software.
Dan also served as Director of Planning and Engagement at the Washington Cyber Roundtable, a non-profit dedicated to constructive public-private dialogue on cybersecurity issues.
Dan received his bachelor’s degree in international politics from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. Dan has traveled to more than 60 countries on six continents.
