Simon Everett, Ltd., is hiring an Analyst to support project delivery across our global technology and trade portfolio.
The Analyst will conduct high-impact research and analysis across a range of problem sets in the digital infrastructure sector, including telecommunications (e.g., 5G networks, fiber optic backbones, subsea cable systems), smart cities, e-government, and cybersecurity. Areas of focus will include project economics, technical approaches, competitiveness of U.S. products and services in international markets, and geopolitical and security risks.
The Analyst may choose to be based at either of our locations in Arlington, VA, and New York, NY.
The ideal candidate
You are hungry for a professional challenge. Your intellectual curiosity is insatiable—you relish the opportunity to learn, and you’re not shy to dig into topics that stretch your comfort level. You have a strong interest in digital technology and its role in international trade, development, and geopolitics. Your attention to detail is meticulous, such that an out-of-place comma rankles you. You excel when you’re given clear expectations with the leeway to develop your best approach to meet them. You are ready to sink your teeth into research, analysis, writing, and presentation development, but you’re also willing to take on administration and coordination tasks in support of business development and corporate growth. Also, you’re down with our values.
What’s so great about this job?
You will work directly on substantive issues that affect major infrastructure investments, shape organizational strategies, and support international digital development at the ground level. You will be in a position to demonstrate a degree of initiative, creativity, and accountability that you won’t find in many other early-career positions. You won’t just be “behind the scenes” research support to senior personnel—you’ll be front and center with us. We pride ourselves on the diversity of our work, so you’ll be exposed to different content areas, clients, and analytic challenges.
Core tasks
You’ll be directly responsible for:
Research and analysis relevant to various trade, technology, and business challenges
Your focus will primarily involve telecommunications, cybersecurity, and smart city projects in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Europe; specifically, you will explore technological, commercial, economic, regulatory, geopolitical, development, environmental, and supply chain issues related to these projects
Active participation in workshops, conferences, and structured analytic exchanges
Coordination tasks to strengthen client engagements and improve internal operations
Development of white papers, proposals, and presentations in support of business development activities
Research and analysis to inform internal capability development initiatives
Review and editing of written materials
Desired qualifications
In order to successfully perform core tasks, you’ll need to demonstrate:
A bachelor’s or master’s degree in economics, international business, international affairs, international political economy, public policy, a technology discipline, or a similar area of study
2 to 5 years of relevant work experience, and you’re looking for an opportunity to make an impact at a firm with room to grow
Excellent written communications that require minimal editing and oversight
Strong research skills, an aptitude for problem solving, and the ability to figure out how to get things done
Experience developing and/or improving research frameworks and methodologies to more effectively fill knowledge gaps
Experience developing cogent, professional analysis
Attention to detail and outstanding organizational skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the willingness to become fluent in these applications
Intellectual agility, meaning an aptitude for quickly learning diverse subject matter
Willingness to travel occasionally, both within the U.S. and abroad
Compensation
The expected salary range for this role is $75,000 to $120,000 per year. This range applies to both our Arlington, VA, location and our New York, NY, location. Our competitive benefits package includes medical, dental, vision, and life insurance; short- and long-term disability insurance; 15 days of paid time off, in addition to federal holidays and sick leave; tuition assistance; and a 401(k) program with corporate match.
